Does change scare you? It stops many people and companies in their tracks! Without change you'll never be able to improve, and you'll never be able to take advantage of new ways of thinking or doing something different.
Change is scary! That's just the way it is for some people. No one likes to change their thought patterns or behavior, especially because as humans we are pre-programmed to desire a routine and sameness.
That said, "if we're doing what we've been doing, we're going to get what we've been getting!"
This is especially true if you have something to protect - from business revenue to family relationships.
If you're not feeling like you're achieving your full potential in your business or personally, then embrace change. Don't be afraid of failure, and definitely don't let fear get in your way. Fear, as one of my mentors said is "False Evidence Appearing Real."
This is where large corporations are challenged andwhy they fail over time. A good example is Poloroid. Polaroid Corporation filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October 2001. Almost all the company's assets (including the "Polaroid" name itself) were sold to a subsidiary of Bank One. Its bankruptcy I believe is the result of the failure of its senior management to realize the effect of digital cameras on its film business. Becasue they were protecting their current revenue of film sales, they were unable to change to the new digital era. There were a lot of groups that are concerned about their current film business that probabaley felt they had something to loss not gain - stock holders, company managers, company sales staff, cutsomer service, retail channels...and on and on...
You can see that it isn't easy. But in the end it leads to more stress over a long period of time.
So what is the alternative?
Positive, productive, exciting ...change.
When you start entering the relm of accepting change, you are opening yourself to many solutions and opportunities. Maybe for some a different kind of stress but as they learn how to accpet it, changes to excitment and wonder as the day unfolds. T. Harv Eker in his Secrets of the Millionaire Mind book, explains his definition of an entrepreneur as "someone who solves problems... for a profit!" When we incorporate entrepreneurial thinking into our basic mind-set (this might mean releasing any self-limiting or self-destructive thoughts), we start to see a world of opportunities: we start to see great ideas everywhere!
- We start to see an ability to change an existing product or service and make it better.
- We see a new product or service that we can create.
- We see better wasy to market a product or service.
- We see how to better use a tool that is being abused and transition it to be used for good.
With acceptance of change comes the ability to create opportunities, helping people solve their problems. The only thing life promises us is "change" so look forward to and enjoy the journey.
